This blog will be a forum to exchange information and be a dialogue amongst our customers, web site visitors, vendors, and Walking Tours of France staff. If you have ever used the France on Foot web site, created by the author who wrote the definitive guide to France hiking of the same name, we are taking up where they left off; their site has not been updated with any new information since July 2003.
We can help get you to/on the trail and supply trails guides, maps, and other information for your journey. But, those who have recently hiked a specific trail can get to current changes faster than we can. Here are some recent queries we have had. “Would you recommend a chambre d’hote in Najac?” “What are the current trail conditions on the GR4 near Entreveaux? “Do I need to take a tent on the GR65 as I have heard it is very rural?”
We’ll try to keep up with the various categories discussed so you can search this blog for info. Since time is limited for us, we won’t look at this blog every day, probably weekly when we are swamped with orders. So, if you need information about maps or guides, contact us directly via our e-mail. If you want an opinion of a guide or map, then use this blog to query your fellow hikers.
As we are new at this, all suggestions will be appreciated.
Let’s hear from you,
Michael Edwards,
Customer Service Manager

We’ve had a lot of customers this year going to the Parc National Mercantour located in the Alps north of Nice and Menton.
Two GR trails of interest pass through here; GR 5 which enters its western side from the north, terminating in Nice and the GR 52 which starts in Menton on the coast (short distance east of Nice), with a circular route through the entire park. The GR52A intersects these trails with a route to Italy.
If you have had experience on any of these trails, give us your thoughts on this.

This blog is about hiking in France and related topics.
It is sad that some of you out there in the Internet world don’t respect the requests of other people. READ THIS! If you are not discussing hiking in France or information related to France (good restaurant, hotel, museum located near trail, available tours, etc.), it will be deleted from this blog.
Our time is limited and we will not tolerate those of you that intend to waste our time.
Thank you.

This is one of the most famous trail circuits in Europe. From the village of Chamonix, the trail travels in a southerly direction around the east side of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in France, then westward, and back to Chamonix. If you had experience on this trail, please let us know.
